%makeinstall macro sets prefix-like parameters in lower case only. This seems to be GNU style of using parameters in makefiles. But a lot software still uses uppercase parameters. I wonder how many makefiles in ALT Sisyphus contain DESTDIR set.

Well, no, since this is going to be a backward-compatible change.

Do you bother about something like RH compatibility? But you can\'t build most things on RH anyway, due to another changes. I\'m telling you.

Standard macros are not quite flexible.
But we don't have to use them.
