выделил патч для поддержки в rpm в отдельный баг поэтому имеет смысл при
https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5556

А что это за архитектура athlonxp?
Может у неё есть другое, общепринятое имя?

процессор AMD Athlon XP
если общепринятое для этого процессора название архитектуры не знаю, не встречал.

В gcc: -march/-mtune=athlon-xp; для rpm нагуглить --target, кроме athlon, не
вышло.  Мож есть смысл спросить в апстриме, или ну его и все, кому надо
оптимизироваться, бегом на AMD64? :)

В rpm athlon_xp (как и в случае с x86-64, "-" заменено на "_").

Я склоняюсь к тому, чтобы по этому вопросу впереди апстрима
(см. http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/*checkout*/config/config/config.sub)
не бежать.
