Честно говоря, не смотрел, где выставляются другие XDG-переменные, но те переменные в любом случае к среде не привязаны. А эта привязана (см. http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/ar01s02.html). В этой связи просьба добавить в скрипт startgnome2 следующую строку:
export XDG_MENU_PREFIX="gnome-"
Её добавление специальной версии gnome-menus не требует, меню останутся в порядке.
