- Ship the desktop defaults system-wide instead of /etc/skel, which is
  copied once at account creation and so never reaches an account that
  already exists:
  + Put our own directory first in XDG_CONFIG_DIRS and XDG_DATA_DIRS from
    one snippet in /etc/profile.d, linked into the Plasma session env
    directory, the only slot a Wayland session is sure to read.
  + Move the xfconf channels, the Thunar and Whisker menu files, the
    KConfig defaults, GTK, recoll, fontconfig and vim there. Only what
    has no system-wide slot stays in skel: gtk.css, the panel launcher
    items and the Plasma applet layout.
  + Mask the alterator-notes license launcher through the data layer
    instead of a copy in every home directory.
- Reduce what we ship to the settings that differ from the defaults of
  the programs that read them:
  + Drop the xfce4-screensaver, keyboard-layout, keyboards and
    xfce4-settings-manager channels and the empty Thunar accels file.
  + Trim the xfwm4, xsettings, xfce4-desktop, xfce4-notifyd, power
    manager, Thunar and KDE files to our own values.
  + Stop listing properties without a value: xfconf does not fall back
    to the system file merged before ours, it erases what that file set,
    which is how the failsafe session lost its client list.
  + Keep the keyboard shortcuts in the default profile; the custom one
    replaces the stock set wholesale, which had taken away Ctrl+Alt+T
    and the window tiling keys.
  + Read the terminal defaults from the xfconf channel: terminalrc is
    consulted once and copied into the user's own configuration.
- Drop defaults whose program the edition no longer ships: audacious,
  .wm-select, the xscreensaver and tracker-store autostart, the orage
  clock, xfce4-mixer, xfce4-volumed-pulse, nm-applet and the Qt 4 style
  override. Point the rest at programs that are installed: catfish for
  the Thunar search action, vlc and parole for discs, xfburn for burning.
- Drop the fvwm-settings and mate-settings subpackages and obsolete them.
- kde-settings:
  + Give the global theme the appearance keys Plasma caches in
    kdedefaults, where a previously active theme keeps shadowing ours.
  + Stop masking the kgpg autostart: the installer offers one desktop
    environment per system, so an Xfce one has neither this package nor
    kgpg itself.
  + Take over the Plasma session environment drop-in.
- xfce-settings: Bind Super+L to the screen lock and
  Super+Esc to the task manager, the way KDE does.
- menu: Stop hiding the mc entries, the Wine
  console and minesweeper (Closes: 42419).
