Решил сделать рабочий стол без изображения, только заливка цветом. Нашёл решение:

Настройка рабочего стола -> Фон

Стиль -> Нет значков

"Нет значков" - неправильное обозначение, вводит в заблуждение. Значки рабочего стола при этом остаются на месте. Лучше "Без картинки", "Без изображения".
