В консоли, не от рута

cd /var/log
gedit messages &

Так как у юзера нет прав на чтение /var/log/sysog/messages (не знаю почему, но 
так уж оно), то редактр не сможет его прочитать. Но и сообщить об этом не 
сообщеит. А просто будет тихо висеть :-(

При $gedit /etc/lilo.conf получаю табличку 
"Не удается открыть файл "/etc/lilo.conf" 
Доступ был запрещен."
