In ALT systems, there are usually no dpkg programs. But still users are able to look inside .deb-files by means of ar.
I suggest to reflect this in mc\'s extfs: use a wrapper which decides whether to use dpkg or ar (it is attached).

mv /usr/lib/mc/extfs/deb /usr/lib/mc/extfs/deb.real
mv the-attached-wrapper /usr/lib/mc/extfs/deb
