Hm, I remember mpg321 wasn't ready for this prime time yet, no? Well, at least it is packaged so as to work with ALSA. This is not the case with mpg123 (https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13923 ), so if the installation of mpg321 was possible, it would solve some problems.
