The "hand" sign in the attached example (hand-pifont.pdf) is not shown by evince. 

Though, it is shown by acroread-5.09-alt1 or gv-3.6.3-alt1.

The example was generated by pdflatex from the attached hand-pifont.tex
(tetex-latex-2.0-alt3).

I see an empty box with a black frame in evince instead of the sign.

hand-dbfont.tex -- another way to get the sign in LaTeX

There is another way to get this sign in LaTeX, again, the sign is not shown by
evince, epdfview and kdpf in the resulting pdf (and is shown by acroread and
gv).

xpdf-reader-3.02-alt3 shows the sign in this pdf.

kpdf тоже не показывает. Где-то не тот шрифт подставляется?

Собрал с новым texlive. "Рука" показывается в evince, epdfview и в xpdf-reader.
Полагаю ошибка была всё-таки в latex.
Закрываю баг. Проблема решена.
