Есть смысл сделать симлинк /var/lib/kdm4/faces/user.face.icon -> /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/pics/users/default.png (В ответ на комментарий №1)

Зачем?
В последней бете KDesktop-6.0 работает из коробки. Это связано с правами доступа в каталог пользователя. Подробности можно увидеть installer-feature-samba-usershares , который выставляет UMASK 076 |
