Похоже, надо добавить в пакет samba-common каталог /var/cache/samba/ -- на текущем regular-mate.iso при попытке в файл-менеджере caja расшарить правой кнопкой папку ("Общий доступ") получаю:

ERROR: cache directory /var/cache/samba does not exist

В федориной samba-4.0.3-2.fc18 такого не вижу, из найденных упоминаний о правах -- 0755 root:root вот здесь: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9807916&postcount=6
