mate-mplayer при нажатии кнопки закрытия окна - начинает воспроизведение заново.
А после повторного закрытия процесс остается висеть в памяти.
И так каждый запуск.

note from mate-mplayer upstream:

mate-mplayer (fork of gnome-mplayer) has reached EOL !

Gnome-mplayer support now mate and provide a caja extension with latest
upstream commits.

апстрим сдох, уже не починят.
удалить из репозитория.
