To prevent generating of bitmapped fonts by dvips or pdflatex while using 
cm-super fonts directly from tex, the corresponding TFM files must be 
installed into TeX. Unfortunately, there is no TFM metrics provided in 
cm-super-fonts distribution. But we could resolve this by autogenerating TFM 
metrics files for each combination of font/encoding. 
 Patch for spec included.

Вообще говоря и dvips и pdflatex не генерируют растровых шрифтов при
установленном cm-super-fonts. См. также файл INSTALL в оригинальном тарболле
cm-super, 
в котором указано, что для tetex не требуется генерировать tfm.
