On Simply (or widely p10) the eepm with gui (third party apps) tool is excellent, with great integration out-of-the-box.
But all apps that are installed with this tool do not integrate repositories that would allow further updates of those apps with Synaptic...

After installing with APPINSTALL (eepm gui) an app, the fact its never getting updated is a security flaw...
