Вот что выводит rsync в сизифе:
  % rsync -V | sed -n '/^Opt/,/^[^[:space:]]/p'
  Optimizations:
      no SIMD-roll, no asm-roll, openssl-crypto, no asm-MD5
  Checksum list:

На i586, может, и не надо, а так стоило бы попробовать включить.
