Please look in /etc/X11/XF86Config; is the mouse configured as PS/2 (Device \"/dev/psaux\" in Section \"Pointer\")? If the PS/2 mouse is configured, but not attached, keyboard freeze can happen. In this case you need to select the correct mouse type. If you really did this in some configuration program, and it generated this incorrect /etc/X11/XF86Config, post a bug report for this configuration program.
