%makeinstall macro sets prefix-like parameters in lower case only. This seems to be GNU style of using parameters in makefiles. But a lot software still uses uppercase parameters. I wonder how many makefiles in ALT Sisyphus contain DESTDIR set. --- ---

Standard macros are not quite flexible. But we don't have to use them.
