As you probably heard radare2 is the most popular free and open source reverse engineering framework and a toolset. Many distributions already packaged it https://repology.org/metapackage/radare2/versions The current release is 2.5.0, but a new release (2.6.0) will be done in a couple days. We usually make a new release every two months: https://github.com/radare/radare2/milestones Radare project started as a forensics tool, a scriptable commandline hexadecimal editor able to open disk files, but later support for analyzing binaries, disassembling code, debugging programs, attaching to remote gdb servers, .. radare2 is portable.
