Sometimes (say, every 10th time) no messages appear after \'Entering runlevel 5\' while booting.

After a pause, you see the login prompt (with the tux image) and  then an empty screen (X should be started at this moment).

Somehow after all this I manage to get into runlevel 3 and restart X. 

The corresponding log message is like this:

/dev/console: Input/Output error

which appears after the message \'Entering runlevel 5\'.

/var/log/messages for this boot are attached.

I don\'t know how to reproduce this.
Btw, we now use another X startup scheme.
