Description Ivan Zakharyaschev 2008-01-31 07:15:56 MSK
(This is about the installer, I haven't found a component for it.)
Server-4.0.1 installer.

If textmode installation exists, then it would be good to make a well exposed
option (e.g., in the boot menu) to choose it. Then, in the cases when the X
doesn't work, the person who is installing the distribution would at least be
able to run the textmode installation.

Or make an option for the simplest VGA mode installation.

Inspired by https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14255 .

You cannot hope to include the correct configuration for every hardware and to
be able to do everything automatically. But giving easy access to the
flexibility of the installer to the person who is installing the distribution
would help.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to install Server 4.0.1 on Dell Latitude D610, run "Installation".

Actual Results:
The X doesn't work (because of wrong configuration?). I could see no easy way to
run the installer in a simpler graphic mode (perhaps, text-mode).

Expected Results:
There is an option to run the installation in the simplest mode.
