Попробовал собрать последний PHPUnit - но похоже, нужно pear обновлять.
Получил такую ошибку:
Parsing of package.xml from file "./PHPUnit.xml" failed
Cannot download non-local package "./PHPUnit.xml"
Package "./PHPUnit.xml" is not valid
install failed

Нужно обновиться до последнего pear 1.9.1 — старый не понимает новых xml-файлов.
