дефолтный ssmtpd.conf содержит
rewriteDomain=
hostname=_HOSTNAME_

что приводит к буквально _HOSTNAME_ в HELO и пустоте после @
предлагаю закомментить -- честный hostname всяко лучше, чем эта ересь.
