Без perl-IO-Socket-SSL ddclient работать не хотел:
cat /var/log/messages | grep ddcli
Apr 27 15:05:22 fw aptitude: ddclient-3.8.0-alt1.2 installed 
Apr 27 15:24:06 fw ddclient[13290]: WARNING:  file /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache, line 3: Invalid Value for keyword 'ip' = ''
Apr 27 15:24:07 fw ddclient[13290]: FATAL:    Error loading the Perl module IO::Socket::SSL needed for SSL connect.

Я использую с no-ip (server=dynupdate.no-ip.com). Возможно, не все службы ddns требуют этот модуль.
