Команда "alternatives-update --obsolete" стирает ссылку, но, похоже, не удаляет
её конфигурацию, запомненную update-alternatives в /var/lib/rpm/alternatives:

$ /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --install /usr/share/java/jaxp_parser_impl.jar
jaxp_parser_impl /usr/share/java/xerces-j.jar 120

$ /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --display jaxp_parser_impl
jaxp_parser_impl - status is auto.
 link currently points to /usr/share/java/xerces-j.jar
/usr/share/java/xerces-j.jar - priority 120
Current `best' version is /usr/share/java/xerces-j.jar.

$ /usr/sbin/alternatives-helper --install xerces-j -- jaxp_parser_impl

$ /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --display jaxp_parser_impl
jaxp_parser_impl - status is auto.
 link currently absent
/usr/share/java/xerces-j.jar - priority 120
Current `best' version is /usr/share/java/xerces-j.jar.

Если выполнить "/usr/sbin/update-alternatives --auto jaxp_parser_impl",
/usr/share/java/jaxp_parser_impl.jar будет удалён.





Expected Results:  
После выполнения alternatives-helper, update-alternatives не должен ничего знать
о существовании замещённой ссылки.

эта фишка будет уже отсутвовать в следующем поколении альтернатив. Единственное её предназначение 
было убрать лишние файлы
