1. Опция -i не работает (видимо со времён внедрения disttags). Жалоб нет - следовательно, она давно не используется.

2. Опция -i без -a не предлагает выбирать модули и не имеет смысла.
Пользователю необходимо угадать (или пройти путь ошибок), что для -i требуется -a.
При этом, запуск без -a не приводит к установке модулей, а при повторном запуске с добавленным -a к ошибке "No upgrade is needed. Use -f for force." При третьем запуске с --force к ошибке: "--force and --interactive are mutually exclusive options."
Следовательно, опция -i должна подразумевать -a.

Или должна быть удалена вообще!

 - Rework interactive mode UI (ALT#42321).
 - '-i' can be used at any time to add new modules to the system.
 - Interactive module selection happen before kernel install.
 - Install kernel-headers and external modules together with the kernel in one
   transaction.
 - Colorize & brighten some important messages.
 - Call sync after install.

Я оставил interactive mode но переделал UI его работы.
