помимо неиспользования fixed width, стоит посмотреть отличающиеся от URW Gothic
шрифты -- в первую очередь XLinSans -- особенно по читаемости при различных DPI.

Пробы XLinSans на разных разрешениях дали довольно приятственные результаты. Я
за XLinSans.
