BTW, totem теперь собирает mhz@, так что reassign, чтобы он был в курсе :)

У меня не падает, но идет вразнос со спамом в stderr.

В чем некорректность totem.desktop?
update-menus сообщает:

In file "/usr/share/applications/totem.desktop", at (or in the definition that
ends at) line 1:
[...]deo/vnd.rn-realvideo;audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin;^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@

Это последняя строчка в файле. Она длинная и не заканчивается переводом строки.
По-моему, это случай C Programmer's Disease в парсере update-menus.

А вот что нам сообщает родная для формата утилита:

$ desktop-file-validate /usr/share/applications/totem.desktop
/usr/share/applications/totem.desktop: warning: file contains key "DocPath",
this key is currently reserved for use within KDE, and should in the future KDE
releases be prefixed by "X-"

Открывайте баг update-menus взад.

Я вот думаю, а не приделать ли к rpmlint desktop-file-validate что бы проверять 
desktop файлы?
