При установке ядра initrd создаётся для текущего и кладётся в файл с версией устанавливаемого.


Image is saved as /boot/initrd-2.6.34-wrar-1.img

$ sudo ls -la /tmp/make-initrd.pc7P5f7Nb                    
drwxr-xr-x  4 root root  80 Мар 25 01:56 2.6.33-wrar-10.initrd

Какая версия bootloader-utils ?

C bootloader-utils-0.4.8-alt1 должно всё работать. Подтвердите.

$ sed -i -e '/^MKINITRD=/d' /etc/sysconfig/installkernel
$ echo "INITRD_GENERATOR=make-initrd" > /etc/sysconfig/installkernel

Исправлено в make-initrd 0.3.1.
